Types of Ortho Treatment

American Orthodontics

We proudly offer American Orthodontics® products, which are made entirely in the USA. For more information on AO, visit their website, www.americanortho.com.

Metal Braces

Metal brackets are still the most common type of braces used today. New technology has made these traditional braces much smaller so consequently they are significantly more comfortable and much less noticeable than before. We proudly offer the AO Low Profile bracket that is state of the art and customized to Dr. Klomparens exact specifications.

Ceramic (Translucent) Braces

Ceramic braces are made of translucent (clear) material. They are most popular with adult patients due to their cosmetic appeal. This type of bracket is amazing in its ability to blend in with the teeth and is hardly noticeable. We proudly offer the AO Radiance line of ceramic brackets

Functional Appliances

Functional appliances are removable appliances which are generally used to help promote jaw growth, especially for children with small lower jaws. These appliances are more successful when used with young or growing children.

Rapid Palatal Expanders

Rapid Palatal Expanders (RPEs) are used in young and growing children to expand or widen a narrow palate. This appliance is glued into place on the first molars. The expander is very effective at widening the bone structure of the palate, eliminating crossbites along with functional shifts, gaining more space for the adult teeth, and many times improving the child’s ability to breath through their nose.

Extractions

Extracting adult teeth is sometimes utilized to create needed space for the alignment of the teeth as well as correcting bite problems. Due to recent advances in techniques and wire systems, extractions are less common than before, but there are still patients who just have too many teeth in a small mouth and we just can’t "squeeze" them all in. Dr. Klomparens has extensive training in the proper diagnosis and treatment of malocclusions that require the removal of teeth with the emphasis placed on facial balance and long term stability.

Orthognathic (Jaw) Surgery

Corrective jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery) treats and corrects growth abnormalities between the upper and lower jaw structures. Orthognathic surgery is used in conjunction with comprehensive orthodontic treatment and is usually reserved for patients that have completed their growth potential and Dr. Klomparens is unable to properly correct the bite with conventional braces alone. State of the art materials such as titanium plates and miniature screws provide stability, strength, and predictability to the surgery. These advances in technology, procedures, and equipment reduce post-surgical time, thus allowing patients to return to their normal routines soon after surgery. Dr. Klomparens is trained to recognize jaw growth problems and can determine if orthognathic surgery is the most ideal treatment option for you.

Retainers/Clear Aligners

Sometimes minor tooth alignment can be accomplished with removable retainers or clear aligners. This type of treatment is limited to patients who have a good bite and very little crowding.
